Eerste Venlosche Kinematograph
history
Cinema on the Vleesstraat 46 in Venlo, located in the hotel De Port van Cleve. The owner of the hotel and the cinema was Joep Caubo.
Later, the Elite Cinema and City cinema were located in this same building. The City cinema closed on January 7, 2001.
In 1920, Caubo’s son Harry was promoting the screening of the film Christus in the Elite Bioscoop. From an aircraft flying over Venlo, he dropped leaflets on the town, but the aeroplane crashed and its three passengers were killed.
Joep Caubo then immediately distanced himself from the film world, and leased out his cinema.
