Biography
Shinkichi Tajiri is a sculptor of Japanese-American descent. After the Second World War, he settled in Paris in order to attend lessons given by figures such as Ossip Zadkine. In the mid-1950s, Tajiri came to the Netherlands and, after a short stay in Amsterdam, settled in the Limburg town of Baarlo.
Between 1955 and 1970, Tajiri made several short experimental films, with The Vipers and Fietsers/Bicycles being the best known.
Tajiri, who for a long time was a professor at the Hochschule der Bildende Künste in West Berlin, died in Baarlo in 2009.
