Rubia's Jungle

Summary

In his second feature, subtitled A Love Mystery, Pim de la Parra aims at the international market by using foreign actors and English dialogue.

The red-haired British actress Quinn O’Hara plays the impassioned Rubia, who reverses traditional practice and pursues men. She has left her friend, the writer Lucas and is currently chasing athletic Albert. But he is not interested in exchanging the wife he loves, Helen, for Rubia. Meanwhile, Lucas is running up big taxi bills following Rubia to see what she is doing. For a while it even looks as though this detective work will lead to an affair with Helen, but it doesn’t. Albert does actually sleep with Rubia on occasion. The melodramatic ending makes it clear that he should not have done so.

Shooting took place in the record time of eleven days, completely on location in Amsterdam and the picturesque villages of Laren and Loosdrecht where cameraman Frans Bromet could give the love drama a tasteful setting. The provocative tagline given by Pim de la Parra and Wim Verstappen's Scorpio Films proclaimed the film to be one that had to be seen twice: "once with the spouse, and once with your lover."
