De artisten-revue

Summary

Flipje is a Jack of all trades, but a master of none. As member of a rescue-squad, manservant, waiter, point-duty constable, he has been a failure. His luck changes when a stage manager engages him as factotum. Because of an incident at the border, a group of foreign artistes have not arrived at the theatre and it seems as if the show for which the house is sold out cannot take place. The manager contacts numerous theatrical agents and, thereafter, artistes stream to his office for a try-out. Illusionists, dancers, soubrettes, transformation-artistes, jugglers, the Speenhoff duo and wrestlers are greeted by Flipje in an odd mixture of Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish and asked to show what they can do. Flipje becomes a victim of dancing-mania and, in his performance of the "Valencia", reveals himself unexpectedly as a talented comedian. As a result, he too is engaged as artiste. The show goes on! After some time, Flipje has become a favourite, whose every appearance is honoured with floral tributes from enthusiastic audiences.
